At the end of november, the bamberg state construction office notified the construction company that was to carry out the planned earthworks and roadway construction for the zeyern bypass. A decision that is taken only very rarely. "In my 25-year career so far, it was the first time we had ever cancelled a contract", says deputy building authority director uwe zeuschel.
However, it is not at all certain that delays will now occur. The plan to stop construction of the new bypass in mid-2019 will be maintained for the time being. "No work would have been done in winter anyway. In this respect, the timing of the announcement – if you can call it that – was actually very fortunate", explains zeuschel.
A summer shutdown, when construction is in full swing, would have resulted in a much greater loss of time. But whether time is lost at all depends on which contractor will continue to take over the earthworks in the future and what its staffing levels will be like.
The contract is expected to be put out to tender in january. What the building authorities may have to deal with in the event of a legal dispute with the construction company and which building project will be tackled next can be read here.
